Ordinary Love
By Gwen Knighton © 2002
This is an ordinary love
The kind where I meet you
By sending words into the vacuum
Bounced by cables and by satellites
And it's an ordinary day
With rain upon the window
And every sound's an echo
Of the music of your voice
We live our ordinary lives
The kind where we connect
In little traces in the daytime
Then we burn the phone lines late at night
We speak in ordinary words
And we don't neglect the details
And every story that you tell me
I just want to hear again
Time, pass by - tears fall down
Fingers, fly - Voices, sound
You are here - we're apart
Still we play the music in our hearts
I am an ordinary girl
The kind who dreams in pictures
About your ordinary fingers
And their practiced paths across the strings
And you're an ordinary man
With hope stuffed in his pockets
Against the rising wall of loneliness
You whistle and you sing
Time, pass by - tears fall down
Fingers, fly - Voices, sound
You are here - we're apart
Still we play the music in our hearts
This is an ordinary love
The kind where I meet you
By sending words into the vacuum
Bounced by cables and by satellites
And it's an ordinary day
With rain upon the window
And every sound's an echo
Of the music of your voice
