Has it really been this long since we updated the website?!  We promise to do better!  We want you to know that we've been busy: we're nearly finished with our third CD, Third Thyme's The Charm, due out this fall!  We just got back from Rochester, NY, where we performed at the 25th Wedding Anniversary party of Jim and Christine Zapetis, two wonderful folks who are still very much in love.  We had a blast!

This week, Teresa is going to be in the studio laying down some more vocals, and figuring out what to do about the bass conundrum.  Six months ago, while setting up for a gig with another band she performs with (Play It With Moxie), Teresa experienced yet another ill-timed instrument calamity...one of the hotel personnel dropped her 3/4 Clevinger electric upright bass in the parking lot, and cracked the pickup on the A string.  It's been out to the Bay Area and back for repairs, but it still isn't playing right, so we've had to make some adjustments, both with performances and with the studio work.

Our next gig will be at Fencon V in Dallas, Texas in early October.  It's going to be a great time, so come if you are able!

For those of you who haven't heard it yet, check out our mp3 of Brenda's song, Blue Spell, which is uploaded for your listening pleasure at our myspace page!

Stay tuned for more news!

August, 2007

It has been a very busy summer for all of us.  Brenda has moved her home base to beautiful Danville, Indiana, and we have all been taking turns in the studio.  The process is always slower than we would like it to be, be we feel very confident that the final product will have been worth the wait.

We now have a presence on myspace.com.  Please check us out and become a friend!

Because of our studio and other commitments, we haven't had many performances this year, but please ake a look at our gig schedule.  We will be performing at Savannah Pagan Pride at the end of September.  It promises to be a lot of fun, and we hope to see some of you there!

Thanks for your patience, and most of all, thanks for the love!

April, 2007

This year is flyin' by, and we Sisters hope that you are having a great summer! Mary has been working on her solo CD, Courting My Muse, and is looking forward to its upcoming release.  We will all be in the studio again very soon!  We have been working on new material for the next Three Weird Sisters CD, Third Time's The Charm, and are very excited about the new songs.  Keep an eye on our gig page, as we are starting to add new performances to the roster.

January, 2006

It's hard to believe that 2005 is over.  We are getting ready for a great year!  Teresa was recently interviewed by bassgirls.com.  Go to their website to read all about it!

Note to Disgruntled Harry Potter Fans: We didn't do it!

Earlier this year, our band was contacted by Warner Bros. to request our permission to use the name "Weird Sisters" in the upcoming movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  As fans of the books and the movies, we were enthusiastic about the negotiations.  However, the Canadian band, The Wyrd Sisters, objected venomously to Warner Bros.' minimal reference to the name in the film, and filed suit.  Warner Bros. broke off negotiations with us as a result, and ultimately dropped all reference to the term "Weird Sisters" in the movie.  We have since received several angry emails, apparently mistaking us for the Canadian band, and taking us to task for fighting with Warner Bros.

FOR THE RECORD:  we had NO objection to Warner Bros.' plans, and in fact looked forward to the movie.  The actions of The Wyrd Sisters have apparently upset the Harry Potter fan community, and in fact, cost us, the Three Weird Sisters,  a substantial amount of money, due to the terminated negotiations.  The folks who have confused us with the other band have accused us of being mean spirited, and we want to set the record straight.  Any communications with The Wyrd Sisters should be directed to them, not us.

Scotland rocks, y'all!  We had a GREAT time playing together in Glasgow, and having the entire band together was a true and wondrous treat.  We played to a full house of enthusiastic music lovers, and we thank everyone who came to the show.

In other news, we are down to our last box of CDs for Rite the First Time.  We need to order a second pressing, and we have you, our fans, to thank for our success!

July, 2005

I can't believe it's been so long since I updated the news page...sorry everybody!  It's been a very busy and event-filled year for the everybody!  Due to all the chaos, we ended up taking about four months off between gigs.  We do have some new things on the gig schedule, so please check it out!   In just days, we are heading off for the U.K. for our performance at the 63rd Annual World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow, Scotland.  This will be the first time in a year that the entire band will get to perform together (Gwen, we miss you!).  Stay tuned...I'll try not to let the updates lag so much in the future!   - T.

November 2004

Breaking News!  All of the Three Weird Sisters will be gathering in Glasgow, Scotland for the 63rd Annual World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon 2005)during August 4-8, 2005.  This is a rare and unique opportunity to catch Gwen, Brenda, Mary and Teresa together for combined performances.  The membership rates for the convention go up at the end of November, so book early!

The USA contingent of Three Weird Sisters will also be performing on the West Coast in Southern California in August, 2005: Three Weird Sisters has been invited to be the Guest of Honor at Conchord 19.  So all you California fans, please take note.  We hope to see you there!

September 2004

Thanks to all the wonderful folks who came out to see our concerts at Savannah Pagan Pride!  Y'all were wonderful, and we had a really terrific time!  For those of you who haven't experienced this wonderful city, Savannah is a marvelous place to visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves; particularly our fabulous meal at The Lady & Sons Restaurant, which has the most wonderful, beautifully prepared and presented Southern Cuisine that you will ever eat anywhere, period.  Paula Deen's cooking is most definitely worth the weight!

Wow, time has been slipping by so fast!  Our Executive Producer, Bill Sutton of Bedlam House Ltd., informs us that we sold 10% of our Hair of the Frog inventory in the first week of release alone.  We are thrilled!  We also have some fine reviews on the Amazon.com website.  We invite you to add yours if you haven't already.

We have been hard at work preparing for our upcoming shows at the Savannah Pagan Pride Festival and at the Witches Brew Gala Event in Sandy Springs.  We are so excited to share some new material with you.  We hope to see you at one or both events!

On a bittersweet note, Gwen's official Bon Voyage date is Monday, September 27th.  We are truly going to miss her...

August 2004

Hair of the Frog is was released on August 28 at the Phoenix and Dragon Bookstore in Atlanta!  We performed for a wonderful, overflow audience: yes, we packed the house!  And we raised over $1500 for the Bionic Priestess Project!!!  Thank you to everyone who came out to support both the Three Weird Sisters and our dear friend, Lady Galadriel.  We have the best fans in the world.

For those of you who were unable to attend the release party, we have very exciting news.  Our dear sister, Gwen Knighton, has accepted a proposal of marriage from the Love of Her Life, Joe Raftery, a lovely Irishman living in London, England.  In September, Gwen will be moving to London to begin her happily ever after!

What does this mean for Three Weird Sisters?  It means that we will be collaborating with Gwen from across The Pond; Three Weird Sisters are not breaking up; we are going international!  We are also adding another sister.  We've asked our wonderful friend, Mary Crowell, (that's pronounced Crow - ell) to join the band, and she has graciously accepted.  Mary is an accomplished singer/songwriter who plays a wicked piano.  She also plays the clarinet.  Everyone who has heard and seen her perform knows that there's just something about Mary!  We all love her, and we know that you will too.

March 2004

Hair of the Frog is in the can, as they say, and awaiting final layout.  Because of an unfortunate glitch in communication, Erin McKee will not be able to provide our cover art; however, our own dear Venessa Austin Price Sylvester has graciously agreed to take this task on.  The preliminary art is fantastic, and we are very excited to have her working with us again.  Thank you for being so very patient.  We trust that you will find the wait well worth it!

October 2003

We're finishing the last tracks on the second CD, and it's all coming down to the last few details.  Marvelous artist Erin McKee is working on our cover art (no easy task that, given the title, Hair of the Frog, for cryin' out loud.)  And we've been actively gigging and polishing our parent band, Year and a Day, that includes George Powell on bass, flute, accordion, guitar, and (soon) banjo , and Bill Sutton on guitar, mandolin, whistles and (soon) uillean pipes.

We've learned that the hoops we'd have to jump through in order to record F.A.P. are just too darn many to navigate by release time.  We're so sorry, but we'll keep on performing the song in our act because.... well, it's a great song that should be heard.

In the meantime, we've been having a great time giggin' at The Java House, The Daily Grind, Sweet Java Brown, and Pagan Pride Day.  We're heading to Ohio to support Gwen and Brenda's husband Bill, both having been nominated for Pegasus Awards.  We're also very excited about performing at the premier of Mythic Journeys in June 2004.

June 2003

We're back in the recording studio working on the second CD tentatively called Hair of the Frog (or HotF for short).  We've got seven tracks laid down that include Mama's Hands, Orbiting Jupiter, Falling for Lancelot, Hymn, Ordinary Love, Like Their Feet Have Wings, and Pointy-haired Boss.  Other songs we're working on are F.A.P., What Granny Taught Me, Discovery, My Karma Broke Down, Annabella, Ordinary Life, and a few others.  It's sounding real good so far.  We're hoping to have it ready for release in September/October.  Pray for us!

November 2002

Wow! Are we floored!  Brenda won a Pegasus Award for Best Spine-chilling Song, In a Gown Too Blue, and the entire band won the Pegasus as Best Performer(s).  And THEN we put a private concert into the Interfilk auction that earned combined bids of $800!  That's the largest item ever sold at an Interfilk auction.  The concert itself was a real gas, with the two bidding sides deciding on the set list, and the Sisters singing on the fly.  What a whirlwind!  What a great time!  What an honor!  THANKS!

October 2002

The Sisters are traveling to OVFF in Columbus, Ohio where they are individually and collectively nominated for Pegasus Awards in five categories.  Weird Power!

Watch for Gwen Knighton's release of her first solo CD at the end of the month.  Box of Fairies is a delightful offering from Bedlam House that showcases Gwen and her harps.

August 2002

We played a split gig with the Border Collies at the Red Light Cafe and then Brenda flew off to England for a week, returning with Ghod's Own Bodhrán (a wonderful birthday gift from the Sisters!)  Gwen has a new song, Falling for Lancelot, that we're working on.  Life is good!

July 2002

We're back on track with regular rehearsals once again, readying new material for the forthcoming CD, Hair of the Frog.  Three Weird Sisters is hoping to get back in the recording studio this fall.  Gwen got bitten by the Songwriting Muse, and is generating a new composition or two every week.  We're loving her most recent songs, Hymn, Ordinary Love, and Free Fall.  Brenda's even penned a new ditty, Pointy-haired Boss, and the air cooks with our cover of the Cheryl Wheeler/Janis Ian song, Orbiting Jupiter.

Once again, it was Standing-Room-Only at the Phoenix and Dragon for the Sisters' Summer Concert.  We also really enjoyed our afternoon performance at the first North Georgia Celtic Festival sponsored by our good friends, Emerald Rose.  They did a fantastic job organizing the festival, and we hope this gets to be a regular event.

Oh, and the nominations for the Pegasus Awards are in.  Three Weird Sisters did very well with a nomination for Gwen's Song of Fey Cross in the category of Best Song that Tells a Story, for Brenda's In a Gown Too Blue in the Best Spine-chilling Song category, and for the band itself in the Best Performer category.  We're thrilled, to say the least!

June 2002

While strolling though Supercom (a communications trade show in Atlanta) with Bill Sutton and Rob Wynne, the Bedlam House Boys, Brenda was introduced to a Weirdo* colleague of Rob's named Pam Bishop.  Pam's been a fan of the Sisters and reported that Rite the First Time is played every day at naptime at the Kindercare Preschool on MacFarland Road.  The music is so pleasant and relaxing, that it lulls all the babies into Lullaby Land.  Indeed, the CD was Pam's music of choice in the labor and delivery room during the birth of her child.  We're pleased and flattered no end!  Thanks, Pam!

*Three Weird Sisters fans have taken to calling themselves Weirdos.  It's beyond our explanation.  We don't find it weird at all that they like our music.  We're keen on it ourselves.

May 2002

The three songs up on MP3.com are Little Boy Blue, Song of Fey Cross and Pity Party.

Little Boy Blue made it to #76 on the Top 100 World Folk list for MP3.com and is featured for the week of May 13th as the first song on the top of their Featured list in Folk.

WooHOOOO!

November 2001

We all had a great time at OVFF (Ohio Valley Filk Festival),  Everybody was wonderful to us and the concert was a heck of a lot of fun.  We also had the distinct pleasure of serenading Terrance Chua (the sweetest, cutest, and most humorous magistrate in Singapore!), and rubbed shoulders with some incredibly talented folks.

The biggest news is that our very own Brenda Sinclair Sutton was awarded the prestigious Pegasus Award in the category of Best Filk Song for her tune "Strangers No More!"  Now, those who know Brenda realize that she has been involved in the filk community since Gwen and Teresa were in diapers (just kidding...well, since they were in grade school, anyway! *wink*).  This Pegasus award is a huge compliment and acknowledgment to her dedication and talent.  Way to go, Brenda!

Venessa Austin Price Sylvester, the wonderful artist who created the artwork on Rite the First Time, has her own website!  Please check it out and give her your support!  http://www.palecrescent.com

Our debut CD, entitled "Rite the First Time," is available online through CDBaby.com and Amazon.com! CDBaby even lets you preview four of the songs:  Spring Strathspey, Rite of Passage , Boys Want Sex in the Morning and Dumb Dumb Dorothy.

As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome, and you can direct those to our webmistress .
